Liverpool's World Expo presence ready for take-off with KLM
Dutch airline KLM has been appointed as official travel partner to the Liverpool Pavilion at the World Expo, in Shanghai.
The airline, which began flying from Liverpool John Lennon Airport in April, has more than 650 global destinations with its SkyTeam partners via KLM’s international hub at Amsterdam Schipol Airport.
Henri Hourcade, general manager of Air France KLM UK and Ireland, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed as the official carrier for the Liverpool Pavilion at Expo 2010.
“Our worldwide network positions Liverpool as an international gateway and that’s fantastic news for the city.”
Liverpool Vision’s director of investment and enterprise, Mike Taylor, said he was delighted that KLM had been appointed as official travel partner, adding: “We are positioning Liverpool as an international gateway so it is entirely appropriate that an airline providing global connections from the city be chosen.”
Liverpool is the only UK city exhibiting at next year’s Expo, which is forecast to deliver up to £50m in economic benefits to Liverpool and the North West over the next decade.
The city’s pavilion is within the Urban Best Practice Pavilion, and organisers expect to welcome about 1m people, out of a total estimated attendance of 70m, during the six-month event.
Public sector backing from the Northwest Development Agency and Liverpool city region councils totals £1.64m.
