The Knowledge Quarter stretches from the city’s Anglican Cathedral to the south, via Liverpool John Moores University and the University of Liverpool, taking in the Metropolitan Cathedral, Liverpool Science Park, Hope Street‘s cultural offering, and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and the world renowned Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine at its northern edge.

The Knowledge Quarter also reaches out to and includes John Moores University’s city campus on Byrom Street, an important gateway to the city centre from north Liverpool where much of their science and technology research is based. The Quarter’s role as a centre of learning is further enhanced by Liverpool Hope University, Liverpool Community College and Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA). Together these institutions house a concentration of expertise, knowledge and wealth creating potential, which we believe is unrivalled in the UK.

Together, the Knowledge Quarter institutions generate £1 billion for Liverpool each year, or 15% of Liverpool’s total GVA. They support 14,000 full time jobs, around 7% of the Liverpool total. A large number of these are highly paid and skilled knowledge based jobs. The area plays a central role in knowledge-based activity within the Liverpool City Region and in the North West, helping to extend its impact throughout the wider knowledge economy. The Knowledge Quarter provides a unique focal point for learning, knowledge transfer, research, cultural pursuits and economic development within the city. These knowledge and cultural assets all operate in a highly competitive environment and require continuous attention and investment if they are to help support prosperity and growth in Liverpool.

Liverpool Innovation Corridor joins The Knowledge Quarter to the Liverpool Innovation Park, which provides a two-way flow of businesses, talent, ideas and money, which will benefit research, company development, job creation and graduate retention.

The Innovation Park has been created by bringing together three adjoining business sites on Edge Lane. Together, as LIP, they have the potential to house a business community totalling in excess of 1 million sq ft of floor space. This development is reserved for firms from high technology and innovative sectors.

Liverpool Science Park
Liverpool Science Park (LSP) is a specialist 40,000sq ft facility based at the foot of Liverpool's iconic Metropolitan Cathedral. Opened in January 2006, the facility provides a home for science and knowledge based companies, offering specialist business support, flexible tenancy agreements, high spec lab compatible office space, marketing support and a city centre location in an impressive landmark building.

The objective of LSP is to create the specialist infrastructure to redevelop the city's wealth and support the city region's knowledge economy. Since its launch, LSP's Innovation Centre has experienced high demand with more than 22 knowledge based companies locating to LSP within the first year of operations.

More than half the companies are from outside the region, attracted by the fit for purpose support infrastructure and the impressive knowledge assets of Liverpool.

Following the success of its innovation centre ic1, Liverpool Science Park's second state-of-the-art facility ic2 will open in 2009. ic2 will provide 40,000 sq ft of highly specified flexible office and laboratory compatible accommodation for the science park's expanding companies and for new enquirers.
